Case Study

Transitioning to Perennial Systems

Mitch is a farmer and rancher from Minnesota, who has participated in the Grass is Greener program. His goal is to turn some marginal crop land into perennial pastures to provide better forage for his cattle. AgSpire advisors worked with him to understand his land and goals, providing guidance on how to best prep the ground and manage new pastures.

Program Details

By enrolling your grazing and feed production acres, you’ll gain access to expert guidance and financial support to implement practices that benefit your land. Choose from three regenerative seeding options, with cost-sharing available to help offset costs.

How It Works

When you enroll in the Grass is Greener, AgSpire’s Advisory Team will work with you every step of the way, providing individualized technical assistance to implement and refine practices.

As a participating producer, you’ll:

  • Adopt a prescribed grazing management plan that ensures at least six months of grazing for your cow-calf operation.
  • Implement at least one regenerative practice, such as cover crops, forage plantings, or range restoration. (Perennial seedings must be maintained for five years.)
  • Support environmental tracking by allowing GPS mapping and soil sampling (up to twice per year) to measure the impact of your work.

Your Data, Protected

Your operation’s data belongs to you. While we use aggregated data to assess program success, individual producer data remains confidential and will never be shared outside of the project.
